1) Title of Research Study: Personality and Decision-Making 2) Investigators: Dr. Kevin Lanning and Alicia Leeper 3) Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between personality types and decision-making based on Prospect Theory. 4) Procedure: Participation in this study will require responding to an online questionnaire, which will be administered by computer either in a laboratory on the Jupiter campus of FAU or via the World Wide Web. The questionnaire asks participants to choose one of two options to solve a problem. This section will take about 35 to 50 minutes to complete. In the second section, participants will respond to a personality questionnaire, which will take about 25 minutes to complete. Following completion of the questionnaires, participants will receive a brief profile, which summarizes their scores on five primary personality traits. 5) Risks The physical risks involved with participation in this study are no more than one would experience in regular daily activities. In response to questions concerning hypothetical military actions, some participants may experience moderate anxiety or mild negative affect. Participants who experience negative aspect and are physically on the MacArthur Campus of Florida Atlantic University are encouraged to contact our campus counselors at (561) 799-8621. Participants who experience negative aspect while responding to the survey at remote sites are encouraged to contact the principal investigator, Dr. Kevin Lanning, at (561) 799-8652, who will providing assistance in exploring local options for mental health counseling. 6) Benefits Your participation in this experiment will aid in the understanding of your personality. If an FAU instructor in psychology has directed you to this study, you may be entitled to a benefit of extra credit for participating in this study. The study administrator will email a list of student participants to your FAU instructor. 7) Data Collection and Storage: All of the results will be kept confidential and stored in secure files. Only the people working with the study will see your data, unless required by law. Procedures have been implemented to keep your information confidential, but as with any online information access, anonymity cannot be guaranteed.
